Subject: June 07 - Coastal Fire Centre Open House
Attachments: Coastal openhouse site map
2012 internal.pdf
It
is time to share with all staff who work at the fire centre our plans for the
June 7 Open House. The organizing committee recognized that not everyone
could be counted on to assist when we first started planning this event because
we were not able to predict what fire suppression workload we would be under at
the time. However the weather forecast is predicting that we should not
expect any moderate fire weather until well past our event so our business is
likely not going to get busy in the near future.
Please
review the site map and Rob Templeman’s email and if there is something that
you would like to assist with please check with your supervisor before
volunteering. We have tried to develop a plan with minimal impact on fire
centre staff. Here is a brief snapshot of the day’s planned events:
Ø Duration: 1000 am
to 1500 pm.
Ø We did not publicly
advertise this event but if any members of the public drop in they are
welcome. The focus is on current and retired staff so some old timers
will be showing up
Ø There is a guided tour
of our facility following the site map for those interested. Our
intention is not to enter directly into buildings other than the Admin office
except for washrooms. There may be a couple of minor tours of the
Dispatch room to show some of the managers or supervisors from other NRO
offices the design and/or to promote the safety check in system.
Ø Aviation is promising a
collection of helicopters to tour
Ø There will be a
business meeting in the Operations Room for the BCFS100 Society from
0930-1030. This is for 6 people and the committee is made up of former
BCFS staff with retired Deputy Forests Minister Mike Apsey as president and
WMB’s own John Flanagan (who is not yet retired)
Ø There will be free food
available beginning at 1130 under the direction of Richard Heard/Elyse (aka
FoodSafe) Pepin & Bill Heggs. At 1230 Phil will say a few words and
cut a cake
Ø We have invited guests
from within our newly expanded Ministry and BC Timber Sales as well as local
fire chiefs and forest companies. It is a routine work day and all have
busy schedules so not all are able to attend
Ø We are asking for staff
to dress in Tans and Blues for the event. Those failing to do so may find
themselves in a new but likely uncomfortable furry suit with a big round hat
Any
questions please ask. Thanks for your interest and participation. Hope
you enjoy.
